Great Redecorating Ideas
When you’re a young home owning couple, and funds may be tight, redecorating your first home may seem like a far off dream. But with a little ingenuity, good, choice of paint, and rewarding hard work, it can transform your home and your life. Martine experienced this by repainting her first house that she and her husband share. It was such a rewarding experience, that she’s ready to do more intense redecorating now that she knows how easy it really is.
When I moved into my new home I had no other option than to do the decorating myself. My husband and I were newlyweds in the early stages of our careers. We couldn’t afford to pay someone to decorate. So either I did the decorating or we left our home as it was when we purchased it. To me that wasn’t an option. All of the walls in the house were white and the carpet was beige. I needed some color in my life. So I decided to make a plan on how I would decide on the way I wanted to decorate. Since the carpet throughout the house was new we decided to keep it. It was a neutral color so I could easily choose just about any color that I wanted and make it work. I didn’t decorate in “themes” in my home other than my kitchen. There I went with a “wine” theme because I chose a purplish-red color and it reminded me of the color of grapes or wine. So it just seemed like an obvious choice. For my living room I chose a rich gold color with white trim and accented with deep jewel tones like burgundy and hunter green. In my dining room I chose an oatmeal color because I wanted the area where we would have our meals to be more calming. And I wanted the dinner table and the meals to be the focal point of that room. For the bathroom I chose calming blues and whites. Our master bedroom was done in a beautiful sage green color and I used other earth tones to compliment the sage green. For the guest bedroom and guest bath I wanted those rooms to be very similar in color because they were connected so I chose a mocha and cappuccino color for those two rooms. I used texture and accent colors throughout my home and used lots of candles throughout. I love the feeling and the scent of having lit candles in whichever room I’m in. I shopped at discount stores, resale shops, and flea markets to find the items that I needed. Decorating the entire house cost roughly around $1200. And that included everything from the paint right down to the candles. Not bad for an entire house. I enjoyed decorating our home by myself so much that after only three years I’m ready to take on the entire project again. Only this time the redecorating is going to involve some major renovations in the kitchen and bathroom. I look forward to taking on the challenge again and look forward to the rewarding feeling of a job well done.
