Affordable Interior Home Décor
Sometimes, recreating home themes from your family or childhood memories can make a place feel right. Connie did it remembering how warm and inviting her grandmother’s house was, and with help from stores like Lowe’s and Goodwill, she brought to life a slice of the past and a slice of home:
When it comes to my home, I want a very warm and inviting feeling when someone walks in my front door. When it came time to choose what kind of theme I wanted to go with for my living room I thought back to my childhood. I remembered my grandmother’s house always made you feel welcomed and loved from the moment you walked through the door. From that point on I knew my house would be decorated with a country theme and antique things.
I decided to paint my living room a burgundy color on the walls and have a cream color carpet. I decided the easiest thing I could do was get the carpet and installation from the same place, so i went to Lowe’s. They had a deal: buy the carpet and get the old removed for free and the new installed for free, which worked perfect for decorating on a budget. I got the painting done in a weekend, and when that was finished I was ready for the carpet to be put down. As weird as it sounds, I decided to go to the local Goodwill store to find a lot of my decorations; a lot of people give away and throw out things that aren’t useful to them (but they are often useful to me!), so I often find great country decor there for nearly pennies. I found a great old American flag that had been sitting in someone’s attic for a very long time and I purchased it for one dollar! It made a beautiful center piece in my living room. When it came to curtains, I learned how to make my own and I went to Wal-mart and purchased some fabric someone had changed their mind about for half off and made my own from scratch. I also get a lot of great decorating tips from the HGTV network channel; they do hands on demonstrations to show you what to do on a budget.
