Home Decorating Books

Wanting to learn how to “go green” with your home decorating? It might seem hard to even know where to start, after the energy saving light bulbs, but there’s a great, inspirational book on it that will transform the way you look at decorating! It’s Annie B. Bond’s “Home Enlightenment,” and Carli says it’s the best decorating book ever:

My absolute favorite book on home decorating is Annie B. Bond’s “Home Enlightenment.” I have bought many traditional home decorating books but usually just enjoy looking at the pictures. Annie’s book changed the way I approached every aspect of my home, not just the placement and color of the objects. Annie opened my mind to living with organic materials. Her book takes you from the front door to all the rooms in your house giving you easy ways to go green in each place. Most people are already used to energy saving light bulbs, but are you familiar with natural fibers vs. synthetic fibers? Throughout Annie’s book you will learn about each natural product, its advantages and disadvantages opposed to the synthetic version most of us are used to. I learned that bamboo, organic cotton, or hemp can be used to decorate with style and comfort as bed linens, shower curtains, towels, and clothing. For flooring options she recommends renewable materials such as bamboo, natural linoleum, and natural cork. I loved the kitchen and bathroom chapters because they are especially fun. Annie can help you create a pleasing and eco-friendly kitchen. Annie believes that your choices of color in the kitchen can be enhanced by the colors of nature. It certainly worked in my kitchen. In the bathroom chapter when Annie writes about pleasing the senses and creating a tranquil retreat, I wanted to go out and purchase nearly everything she mentioned. I learned that by installing top-down window treatments for a bathroom window I could keep my privacy while letting the sun shine in. This alone can make the bathroom a more energizing place to be. What I loved most about reading Annie Bond’s book is her upbeat insights into living a simpler and more Zen life through the objects, colors, and lighting that you surround yourself with in your home. This was a truly enjoyable decorating book that goes far beyond the normal book of this kind.
