Cheap Decorating Idea

I had a great time decorating my own apartment my Sophomore year in college. My budget was tight but I didn’t want to have blank, boring walls. I was young and my self-expression was more important than what was in my wallet. I didn’t have a plan and I didn’t even care. First, I bought the paint, of course. I drove myself to a local paint store for the first time in my life and swooned over the various color pallets. Every shade of color was at my fingertips: Colors far different than the usual shades of colors I was used to. I think I must have spent twenty minutes looking at a single color. I decided on light green, like an unripe lime. I liked that color because it was calming to me – it sent me back to a more relaxed time. This color decided the theme of my house for me: Simple… Chill…Relaxed. I bought the bucket of paint and left. I got back home and immediately got to work; I was so excited and happy that I didn’t even want to take the time to prepare for what I was about to do. I sloppily stuck tape over my electrical outlets and outlined my floor with plastic cover. I dipped my paint roller in that smooth creamy green paint and began the first step in a very long process. Minutes turned into hours, hours into multiple hours. I was exhausted and tired, yet felt happily complete. I didn’t do the best job, but I didn’t even care. I left my house for the night, eager for the paint to dry. As soon as the paint dried, I immediately got back to work. As a broke college kid, I didn’t want to waste money I didn’t even have. I took stuff from my parent’s attic, relics of my childhood, posters from my friends, furniture from strangers… My style was ‘junky college kid’ and you know, it actually worked!
