Bedroom Decorating Idea
The bedroom can be the hardest room in the house to get just right, and yet it’s also the most important room to get right. Even if you know what you want, things may be complicated if you’re renting the house but not the owner. Gail was in a similar situation, but she tells how she made her and her husband’s bedroom into her favorite one in the house:
My favorite bedroom is my husband’s and my room. For the longest time I could not picture what I wanted in my head. Every other room in the house was done except for the most important one. The one that I will be intimate in. The one I will make memories in when my son and I jump on the bed just for a laugh. The one where my family and I will go to when life needs to be erased for a moment. I needed the perfect balance of flirty, sexy and functionality for my little one. My whole inspiration for this project came when I was looking through a West Elm publication. I saw the most beautiful lacquer portraits of silver leafed trees on a bed of white. I decided to pull from the colors and go with blues with silver undertones. White and the espresso color from my bed suite played a huge roll as well. I wanted to start out with getting rid of the hideous gold mirrored closet. However, I did not own the property; I was just the renter. Therefore, I had could not just do what I wanted and just remove it. I had to find an attractive way to cover the whole thing up. After much deliberation, I went with the curtain option. The double curtain look really caught my eye and I purchased a double rod system from West Elm for around $100. Then on top of that I had to buy the curtains. I wanted white on espresso, so I bought two white grommet curtains and one espresso sheer pocket curtain all for around $120. Now that the mirror situation was taken care of, I wanted to get the pictures I bought from West Elm (three for $80) hung up above my bed. I hate just hanging white pictures on the wall without a contrasting color so I scoped out espresso picture shelves. Crate and Barrel had the perfect shelves that I got for $19 a shelf. I laid them out in a triangle pattern to cover the vast emptiness of my white walls. I topped my bed off with a light silvery blue button tufted bedding from West Elm ($150). I added greenery and a picture from our wedding on my dresser to accompany my TV. Then, before I knew it, my room was finally finished.
